HIV SELF-TESTING AND PARTNER NOTIFICATION

People’s knowledge of their own, and their partner’s, HIV status is essential to the
success of the global HIV response. The overarching goals of providing HIV testing
services (HTS) are to deliver a diagnosis and effectively facilitate access to and uptake of
HIV prevention, treatment and care, including antiretroviral therapy (ART), voluntary
medical male circumcision, services for prevention of mother-to-child transmission, male
and female condoms and lubricants, contraception, harm reduction services for people
who inject drugs, pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis. These
high-impact interventions have the potential to reduce HIV transmission and HIV-related
morbidity and mortality (1,8–10).
